You can make those old cars handle a lot better for a lot cheaper than your restore. In fact Jay Leno recommends a place that updates the suspension on his website without doing a major restore and upgrade and at a lot cheaper cost.

hemi is nostalgic

You’d have to be a serious collector and challenger fan to take the original over the XV. I’d take the XV any day.

i wish i had those two in my garage (if i had one ^^).switch any time you want from modern to authentic driving experience must be great!

@occupant272 you idiot, compare this video to one of those that came out recently, this vid came out out in 08..

C&D’s camera work can use a lift. But that XV Challenger could have been done with more resto than mod. A 340 can be stroked to 416 and put out well above 450hp. You can put the pistol grip shifter on the Tremec. You can keep the stock gauges because those white faces look ridiculous. And the wheels are just wrong. I can see moving to 15’s or 16’s but you get much above that and it’s disgusting. I see another Challenger with 20″ rims and I’m slapping the owner’s mama in the mouth.

@fastvwg60 I ABSOLUTLY AGREE …TOTAL PIECE OF CRAP!! HAHAHAA

What I don’t like:
- New Engine
- Low-Profile Tires
I like the idea of making a Challenger look stock but perform well. However, when you take away the engine, the soul of any old Mopar, that’s just crossing the line. Low-profile tires are a dastardly assault on all that is holy in a muscle car or pony car. If it would be possible to get the other modifications without tacking on these acts of sacrilege, I’d love it.
Oh, wait, gotta get me a Challenger first.

haha its not just any old peice of shit, its a rare peice of shit
June 11th, 2010 at 2:29 pm
Yeah every body would be asking themselves WHAT KIND OF A PIECE OF SHIT IS THAT ??
June 11th, 2010 at 3:07 pm
I prefer the original challenger without the modded handeling and braking…The orange modded challenger is hardly a 70 challenger at all.
June 11th, 2010 at 3:56 pm
i’m not really a fan of tuning muscle cars. I’m all for restoration and stock performance. Who cares if the car handles like a boat? it’s a classic example of when the guys at mopar actually made something other than a dodge grand caravan, though challengers aren’t the best muscle cars.
June 11th, 2010 at 4:34 pm
yea u can make a 40year old ca and makethem modern…called he new challenger
June 11th, 2010 at 4:46 pm
not much , cause it doesn’t look very different from average cars…
June 11th, 2010 at 5:13 pm
i wonder how many people would be saying “WTF IS THAT” if i drove by in my 1985 Citation X-11 LOL
June 11th, 2010 at 5:22 pm
Can Car & Driver not afford a better camera than one from a cell phone?
June 11th, 2010 at 5:58 pm
what a car! bringin good suspension into an old grunty muscle car… ya cant go wrong with it. great toy!
June 11th, 2010 at 6:54 pm
that yellow challenger sounds nasty
June 11th, 2010 at 7:20 pm
Yeah I’d imagine
June 11th, 2010 at 8:15 pm
lol totally agree… i mean that BMW-s have better handling than muscle cars but they are nowhere as good cause nothing is more exciting than a cool muscle car…
and i also know what you mean about cars standing out, just that i live like in the northern europe and we don’t get many nice cars here at all so a stock 09 mustang turns quite a lot of heads here…
June 11th, 2010 at 9:10 pm
LOL, BMW’s are a little overrated and overpriced, but I guess it would depend on where you live. I’m in busy Orlando, FL, so there are alot of nice cars around here, and I always have alot of respect for cars that stand out amongst the crowd here
June 11th, 2010 at 9:55 pm
True but where I live any muscle car turns heads…
I bought a 09 Mustang V8 6 months ago and there are just so few of cool cars in our country so it turns a lot of heads… oh right and pisses of people with BMW-s cause they can’t keep up with it…
June 11th, 2010 at 10:12 pm
I agree. This is why this C&D video is just bloody ridiculous. No kidding the XV car is better than a 40-year-old original, so the real comparison should be to something modern (duh). The claim is ’supercar’ performance, so let’s see the proof.
June 11th, 2010 at 10:26 pm
Well, not just that…but I’d still take the original resto-mod, because…how many of those are out there? I already see the new Challengers on the road quite a bit. The vintage ones make people say, “wow, look at that.”
